Members of Alzheimer's Support's day clubs in Wiltshire have passed on their top tips for love, romance and the secret of a happy marriage.

Every year day club members take part in Valentine's Day activities. This year, conversations turned to what makes for a strong relationship, as members were asked to share some of their thoughts and give advice for younger generations.

Lady holding a love heart message'Be kind', 'It's important to be aware of each other's needs', 'Listen to the other person' and 'Love the one you love' were among the tips that club members wanted to pass on.

Head of day care Grant Newton said: "The people who come to our clubs are mostly, though not all, from older generations. Many have lived long lives and some have been married for more than 50 or even 60 years. They have a wealth of experience and wisdom to pass on. We've had some great chats in the last few days, with plenty of humour of course and some real insights.

"Often relationships can suffer when there is dementia in the mix but in these conversations with our staff and volunteers, club members expressed the real love that exists for the person they have shared their life with.

"It's wonderful to be able to share this and remember that people with dementia can teach us so much."
