Alzheimer's Support is launching new art group in November. The fortnightly group will be held at Lyneham Village Hall and is designed for people living with dementia and family carers to enjoy together.

CEO Babs Harris said: “Artwork has been shown to be particularly helpful for people who live with dementia, and the process of painting, drawing and being creative has valuable therapeutic effects for both them and their family carers.

"Our existing groups in Holt and Pewsey are greatly valued. Some of those who attend are talented artists who have lost confidence and find the groups a great way back into being creative. Others come along with no experience of art and really enjoy drawing, exploring texture and colours. Our groups are very sociable and attending an art groups is a lovely way to spend an afternoon together.”

The new group will be run by artist Fran Young and organised by Alzheimer's Support Community Services Coordinator Pam Ollis. It will meet every fortnight on Mondays from 2pm to 3.30pm, with the first meeting on November 6.

Activities will include painting, drawing, sculpture and craft, and everyone can work at their own pace. No previous experience of art is needed. All materials will be provided, as well as half an hour for refreshments and social time after the session is over.
