We want to support a charity that is relevant to the majority of people, is local and where our contribution will make a real difference.

Cumberwell Park's club captains have nominated Alzheimer's Support as their joint charity of the year for 2023 and have set an impressive fundraising target of £20,000.

The prestigious golf club, situated near Bath, has three captains, each of whom is planning events through the year for club members to participate in.

Seniors' Captain Andy Christie said: "We want to support a charity that is relevant to the majority of people, is local and where our contribution will make a real difference.  Alzheimer's Support is a very worthy organisation, providing much needed one to one help to those who are living with Alzheimer's and other types of dementia here in Wiltshire."

Andy, along with fellow Club Captain, Andrew Lucas, and Ladies' Captain, Judith Groves, are organising events including Denim Day in May and Stupid Shirts and Shorts Day in June - where members will get the opportunity to play in attire normally frowned upon.

He said other organisations were welcome to join in.

Let's do it together and smash the target!

Also in June, members will be invited to attempt to compete in eighteen different sports over eighteen days. The captains are eager to hear from any members with ideas or access to 'interesting' sports.

Over the course of the year, each captain will also hold their own individual charity day.  Andy said: "If you would like to do something to raise funds for Alzheimer's Support, that would be fantastic. Let's do it together and smash the target!

Fundraising will even take place at the club on a daily basis, with players on the course being encouraged to make a donation if their ball lands in one of the course's bunkers - with an honesty bottle placed on the bar in the clubhouse for donations!

Alzheimer's Support's CEO Sarah Marriott said: "We were delighted to be invited to attend the Captains' lunch and annual cup presentation in December, where our nomination as chosen charity was announced to the club members.

We were made to feel so welcome and met with such enthusiasm when I gave brief presentation about our role. We are so excited by generous support and we are looking forward to developing our relationship with the Cumberwell captains over the coming year."
