Alzheimer’s Support is inviting new members to join its friendly Old Silk Works day club in Warminster. Spaces in the club are rare, with potential members normally having to join a waiting list.

The club offers a full day out in great company for people living with dementia and some regular free time for carers. Activities are tailored very much to members' own interests and include art work, cookery, board games, reminiscence, dance, poetry readings, photography and much more, alongside plenty of chat and laughter.

Babs Harris, Alzheimer’s Support’s CEO said: “The current vacancies at the Old Silk Works are the sad reality of life after a year of Covid. Our clubs were forced to close for several months at the start of the first lockdown. The restrictions, lack of social stimulation and not being able to get out and about has caused the dementia of some our club members to advance more quickly and they have moved into residential care.

“As a result, we are now welcoming new members to benefit from a full day out in a supportive and stimulating environment at the Warminster club. It's is a joyful place where no two days are the same and members are treated as friends of the family.”

The charity’s clubs and activity groups are run with the full approval of Public Health England and Wiltshire Council and in accordance with its Covid-19 specific guidance and risk assessment.

Alzheimer’s Support also has opportunities for caring and empathetic club volunteers. Volunteers of all ages are a key and valued part of the team and spend their time chatting with members, joining in or leading small group activities, and helping to serve refreshments.
