Alzheimer’s Support’s day care manager Grant Newton has been named one of the top five dementia care managers in the country.

He was shortlisted in the National Dementia Care Awards for his work in Mill Street Club in Trowbridge and Sidmouth Street Club in Devizes, which are used by more than 100 people with dementia every  week.  The judges were particularly impressed by his relaxed, person-centred approach, and by his pioneering methods of using therapy dogs in the clubs.

'A real accolade'

Alzheimer’s Support CEO Babs Harris said: “Grant is a talented and empathetic manager who leads and enables a great team of staff and volunteers. His clubs are welcoming environments where people experiencing this most challenging of conditions have a  hugely enjoyable and stimulating day out.  Our day care is a real lifeline for people with dementia and their carers in East and West Wiltshire and it is a real accolade to have that recognised nationally.”

The awards were made at a ceremony as part of the National Dementia Congress in Brighton.
