The families of two Mill Street Club members have raised more than £5,300 for Alzheimer’s Support in their latest round of fundraising.

The family and friends of the late, much-missed Jean Harvey and Norman Britten, have fundraised for the club in their memory for several years. Their support has paid for several fish and chip lunches for club members and other items to enhance the club day.

This year Jean’s granddaughter Hannah Charlene Smith organised a hugely successful community bingo event at Wesley Road social club – exceeding their target to raise £5,335.

Community fundraising manager Rachel Fear said: “It was an incredible event and so well supported by the community. As well as the bingo, there was a fabulous raffle and so many people made items to sell. It was a brilliant afternoon and so well organised.”

Hannah and family members Belinda, Dave and Rachel visited the club to hand over the funds, most for the club, and some for wider Alzheimer’s Support services.

Hannah said: “Mill Street Club did wonders for Gran and really bought her spirit back and made her smile again, and for that I will be eternally grateful to the staff and members of this amazing charity.

She added: “Thank you for everything you did for Gran, Norman and everything you are doing for all families affected by dementia. Your work is invaluable.”

Day club manager Sharon Cooper said: “The families are amazing friends of Mill Street Club. Your support is invaluable, as is your continued friendship.”
