Alzheimer's Support has launched a new website to guide people through the process of being diagnosed with dementia in Wiltshire.

The Roadmap

The Dementia Roadmap for Wiltshire simple online guide to what to expect (and what to ask for) during the process of being diagnosed with memory loss. It includes a symptoms guide and things to look out for, information of other conditions that can be confused with dementia, and explains the roles of health care and non-medical staff in supporting families at every step of the way.

It is designed to be used by healthcare professionals as well as by families and individuals, who can dip in and out of the roadmap at different times according to their needs.

The roadmap leads to a second, related site, the Support Village, where the charity has pulled together links to a wealth of relevant local information about the support available. This part of the site can be easily updated to add and update information.

Babs Harris, Alzheimer's Support CEO, said: "We have been working on this for nearly two years and have had tremendous support and encouragement from so many people and organisations who know how valuable this information will be.

"People often tell us that what they need is practical, locally available support. There is a wealth of information already available but it can be hard to find so the Support Village brings this together in one place. We think of the Roadmap and Support Village together as a 'virtual dementia adviser' which will be able to help those affected by dementia, and the professionals who advise them, to find the support they need to live as well as they can in their own communities."

The Roadmap and Support Village were created with financial support from Wiltshire Clinical Commissioning Group.

Lucy Baker, acting Commissioning Director Maternity, Children and Mental Health said: “Wiltshire CCG is delighted to support this handy online guide for people who want to learn more about dementia services in Wiltshire.

"The dementia roadmap is an essential guide for individuals, carers and families looking for advice and extra help for people who are affected directly or indirectly by dementia. We warmly welcome this resource and encourage people to use it.”
