The amazing knitters of Mill Street day club have excelled themselves - by knitting a Christmas tree!

Club members Brenda and Norma started knitting squares back in the summer and the idea to make a tree was born. Despite needing hundreds of squares, pompoms, decorations and an angel, the keen knitters and fellow members never gave up, while club volunteer Stephen constructed a wooden frame. It was a wonderful example of working together and keeping skills alive.

Mill Street club manager, Sharon Cooper said: “A huge thank you to all the members, volunteers and staff who put in so much time and effort to bring the tree to life. I am so proud of our amazing tree.”

After carefully transporting the tree to St James's Church, it was featured in the festive Tree Festival, where it received lots of admiring comments and was visited by several club members.

Head of Day Care at Alzheimer's Support Grant Newton said: " The club members who knitted the tree are so proud of their work and showed the tree off to anyone interested visiting Mill Street. It’s been a joy to see.”
