Alzheimer's Support support workers have been shortlisted for a national award for their work in Wiltshire.

The charity's Home Support service is a finalist in the Dementia Care category of the Markel Third Sector Care Awards, which rewards compassion, creativity and innovation in the charity sector.

Interim CEO Sarah Marriott said: "We are thrilled to be shortlisted and to have our Home Support recognised as exceptional on the national stage.

"Our support workers showed extraordinary commitment during the pandemic. They were among the first to go back into people's homes in May 2020 and they make such a difference in the lives of families affected by dementia in Wiltshire every day. As our recent Care Quality Commission review revealed once again, people living with dementia and their families rely on our support workers and appreciate their compassionate and imaginative approach. The nomination recognises the work of everyone involved the service.

"We are in very good company with two other wonderful finalists. Whatever the outcome, we couldn't be prouder."

Other finalists are Alive Activities which engages older people with meaningful creative activities in care homes and the community, and Making a Space dementia support service in Derby.

Winners will be announced as an award ceremony hosted by Len Goodman in February 2022.
