Alzheimer's Support is launching a hands-on nature and gardening group group for more active people affected by dementia.

The group is inspired by the successful Blakehill Farm project which was run in partnership with Wiltshire Wildlife Trust in 2018. It will be held at Long Barn, Stanton St Quintin near Chippenham.

The group will meet for six sessions between March and the end of May, each lasting around four hours. This will give people a chance to get stuck into projects and to enjoy a leisurely lunch together.

Practical projects

Members of the group will take part in practical projects including tree planting, maintaining hedges, tidying up streams and repairing and repainting chicken coops. Family carers will be welcomed as full members of the group. Everyone will be able to work at their own pace and no experience is needed, but members will need to be physically active and enjoy being out of doors.

The group is seeking donations of tools and equipment - including a gazebo in case of British weather. So if you are looking for a home for unwanted workbenches, garden tools, saws, hammers and hand held drills please let us know. Anything donated will be passed to our regular Muddy Boots groups once the spring project is completed.
