Old Silk Works Club in Warminster reopened at the end of July – and for the first time in two years it has spaces to fill.

The national award-winning day club, run by Alzheimer’s Support, is following strict procedures approved by Public Health England to keep everyone safe.

Head of Day Care Grant Newton said: “Thankfully the new procedures have not stopped us from providing the joyful, informal atmosphere that is so loved by our members. But the damage of lockdown is still with us and we have vacancies in all our  Wiltshire clubs – in Devizes, Trowbridge and especially Warminster."

The club is open from Tuesday to Friday each week for a full day of care, with the same people attending each day of the week. Club members are supported to feel at home in the club, which has an indoor garden, retro-fitted lounge area and large open plan kitchen. The charity's beloved therapy whippets, Dottie and Higby, are frequent visitors and other dogs visit as much as possible on other days.

Last year the club won the Best Interior award at the National Dementia Awards.

Grant said: “We are very proud of this very special place. It has been a tremendous challenge for us all to reopen and as the photographs and comments show the 'new normal' has not compromised the care we are able to provide. We are now ready to welcome new members so please get in touch for an informal chat about how we may be able to support you or a family member."
