My mum was a beacon of quiet and understated strength. Although quietly spoken and never seeking to be the centre of attention mum loved being around people, especially her family, and wanting to ensure that they were well catered for.

I had the pleasure and privilege of returning the favour and caring for mum at home while she progressed through her journey with dementia. It's a tough road but made all the easier for the support from organisations like Alzheimer's Support.

Their encouragement, guidance and support to carers and those unfortunately affected by dementia is so important and makes those last few years more comfortable and enjoyable than they might otherwise have been.
