Organise your own fundraising event

We are constantly bowled over by the imaginative ideas of our supporters, and know from them how rewarding it can be to organise an event. From a coffee morning to a themed night out, and from a sponsored silence to an auction of promises, there are scores of ways to mobilise your community to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Support or for our current appeal, the Warminster Dementia Centre.

The important thing about fundraising is that it should be fun. Choose something that you know you'll enjoy doing. If you like a challenge, why not choose something you haven’t done before but have always wanted to!

Getting started

A good way to start is to look at your existing connections. Who do you know? What do they enjoy doing and what can they help you with? For instance you could:

  • Invite your friends to a fundraising social event, themed dinner party or coffee morning. If you are part of a club or society, you could get together to organise a larger event for the public such as a fashion show, disco or band night.

  • If you are a pub regular, see if you can organise a quiz or themed evening at your local. You could invite a rival pub team to a fundraising football match or darts tournament. Adding a raffle can be an easy way to raise even more funds.

  • If your employer is sympathetic, you may be able to base your fundraising at work, for instance by running a cake sale or organising a dress down day and charging colleagues to take part. Larger companies may have a match funding scheme to help you raise even more.

  • It's your birthday! Why not set up a fundraising page on Facebook and ask friends to donate?

Remember, don’t forget to get permission first if necessary for your event. Please get in touch on 01225 776481 or email us if you would like advice on this or any aspect of your fundraising.
