Alzheimer's Support and BBC Wiltshire are inviting musicians from across Wiltshire to join a spectacular jam session as part of BBC Music Day in September.

The charity has been invited to host an event for the BBC's flagship day because of its work bringing music to people living with dementia in Wiltshire. The musical mash-up evening in Devizes Corn Exchange will bring together singers and musicians to make music together as part of the nationwide celebrations. The event is supported by BBC Wiltshire who will be broadcasting live from the Corn Exchange.

Alzheimer's Support CEO Babs Harris said: “We want to build musical connections between people from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. People living with dementia often have an incredible connection with music and it will be wonderful to bring different cultures and different genres of music together so everyone taking part can learn something and experience something new.

“Our own Music for the Mind groups will be represented and we are looking for musicians of diverse backgrounds and traditions to join us, not to perform as such, but for a joyful evening of musical sharing.”

Every band, group or soloist taking part will be invited to play a signature tune or piece of music that reflects what they do. They will then team up with a randomly selected partner to jam together. At the end of the evening everyone will come together to join in rendition of Abba's 'Thank You for the Music'.

BBC Wiltshire editor Mary Sanders said: “We want to bring as many people as possible together on September 26. We’ve got some amazing local talent in Wiltshire and this is a chance to get it all under one roof while doing something positive with people living with dementia along with their family and friends. So no matter where you live, what you do, or what kind of music you play – if you are able to get involved please get in touch.”

The Big Jam flyerThe music mash-up takes place on Thursday 26th September, BBC Music Day, between 5pm and 7.30pm and will be broadcast live on BBC Wiltshire.
