More than 170 Christmas lunches have been gifted to Alzheimer’s Support’s Trowbridge and Warminster day clubs by the charity’s corporate partner, Daykin Estates.

Jordan Daykin, founder of the Westbury-based estate agent, said he was moved to donate the cost of the lunches because “the older generation is often forgotten about”.

The lunches - with all the trimmings - were enjoyed all week at the two clubs. Jordan and marketing manager Ria Cummins also spent a morning at Old Silk Works in Warminster, meeting members, taking part in club activities and chopping vegetables for that day’s festive lunch.

He said: “Alzheimer’s Support is part of the community and rather than just donating money I wanted to get involved. What the day clubs give to the members and respite for their family carers is really important.

“The clubs feel really nice and the members are treated like normal people which, of course, is what they are.”

Benefits of Alzheimer's Support

Daykin Estates’ corporate relationship with Alzheimer’s Support began earlier this year with sponsorship of the charity’s newsletter. Jordan said: “My grandfather brought me up and I watched what dementia did to him and my grandmother who was his carer. I’ve seen the benefit of what Alzheimer’s Support does and know it would have benefitted him.”

Ria added: “I used to work in care and love the atmosphere at the Old Silk Works – there should be a lot more places like this.”

Grant Newton, Alzheimer’s Support’s head of day care services said: “Donating the cost of more than 170 lunches across two day clubs in Christmas week is an great act of generosity. Jordan clearly understands the ethos behind our work and we value his contribution to and interest in Alzheimer’s Support. We couldn’t ask for a better corporate partner.”
