Alzheimer’s Support has received nearly £3,000 from Chippenham Borough Lands Charity to help run its Memory Café in Chippenham.

The fortnightly café gives people with dementia and family carers the opportunity to socialise, chat informally to professionals and enjoy entertainment together. Members can share experiences and know they are not alone and family members can relax. The charity says this all helps to reduce stress and boosts wellbeing.

How the funding will help people with dementia

Alzheimer’s Support CEO Babs Harris said: "We’re so grateful to Chippenham Borough Lands for this generous award of £2,837 for the café which will greatly help with its running costs next year. It’s gratifying to see a local organisation support a local charity. Our members have told us just how much they enjoy the café and how much it was missed during lockdown and we are so glad to be meeting once again."

Phil Tansley, CEO of Chippenham Borough Lands Charity said: "We are delighted to be providing funding towards the Memory Café in Chippenham. Alzheimer’s Support provide a vital community service for local residents and we are pleased to be able to support the work they do to reduce loneliness and improve the health and wellbeing for Chippenham people living with dementia and their family members."

The café will open in the new venue of King Alfred’s Hall next year with the approval of Public Health England. It is exempt from the Rule of Six. New members are welcome and can click here or call 01380 739055 to book a place.
