Alzheimer’s Support is fundraising to open a new art group in Chippenham this spring.

It will be charity's fourth group in Wiltshire where people living with dementia and a family carer can take part in a wide variety of art projects guided by a professional artist. 

Group organiser Pam Ollis, who already runs Alzheimer's Support's popular weekly group in Bradenstoke, said: “People love coming along and it is so good to see everyone try new things.

"We know there’s demand for a group in Chippenham, and art is so beneficial for people affected by dementia. We have our artist and premises ready to go and we are now exploring funding options to make this happen.”

"The art groups we run already are so valued by the people who come along. We aren't looking for masterpieces, but our members get a great sense of achievement. There is such a great camaraderie in the group with everyone working alongside each other at their own pace, being creative together, chatting a bit. Sometimes we all burst into song! It's a lovely atmosphere."

The charity is seeking support from local funders to start the group, and is planning to run it monthly to start with. 

Muddy Boots group for people with dementia in Chippenham

Meanwhile people living with dementia in Chippenham will also be able to enjoy the great outdoors together when it reopens its Muddy Boots group on 20th April.  The group opened at John Coles Park has year and has been on a break during the winter months.

It is based in the sensory garden where group members plant out seeds and grow veg, maintain the borders and get stuck in to routine gardening jobs. 

Pam said: "It will be great to be back working outdoors together once more."
