Life Stories

dementiaCreating a Life Story can be a hugely rewarding activity for a person with dementia.
For most people, the process of finding and collating old photographs, memories and memorabilia is therapeutic and enjoyable.

The finished article, whether an album, written document or story board, provides a wonderful resource for conversation and reminiscence. It is also a useful document to take into respite, hospital or full-time care, as professional carers will be able to find out more about the person ‘as they used to be’.

It can spark conversations and lead to a greater understanding of the person’s life, background and preferences. As verbal communication becomes more difficult, the Life Story becomes ever more important.

Alzheimer’s Support runs occasional Life Story groups where a group of family carers and people with dementia meet together with trained staff to produce a life story over several weeks.
