POLEBARN HOUSE CLUB Polebarn House Club was set up in March 1999 to provide a day-care service for people with memory loss and mild to moderate dementia. Our aim is to provide a place where people with dementia can have some time to do things they enjoy and to give the person who normally cares for them at home a day for themselves. In a warm and homely setting we help people with memory problems to enjoy social contact, to take up hobbies and skills that they enjoy and to have some fun and enjoyment in a safe place. The Club at Polebarn Gardens is open from Monday to Friday. People arrive at 9.30am and go home at 3.30pm. We like to have regular meetings with the other people who are caring for our members to review and update our service. Members may attend as often as they require the service depending on availability of appropriate places. Lunchtime is a focal point in our day and we provide a light lunch which we all enjoy sharing. We cook the lunch on the premises and often our members like to help with table setting and clearing although we have a dishwasher so there isn't too much work involved. If you have a problem with transport we will do our best to arrange some way for you to get here. We like to think that our Club provides something for everyone and we vary our activities to suit individuals preferences and abilities. The Club is run by specially trained staff who understand the problems of both the people with dementia and the difficulties of the people who care for them. We can offer information and support to Carers and offer talking time if there is a need.
