THE OASIS SATURDAY CLUB

Each week at Grassacres, Westbury we provide a Saturday Day Care Service for clients with dementia.

The Oasis Club provides up to ten places for clients with mild to moderate dementia living in both the Warminster and Westbury areas.  This support service is for those living alone as well as providing valuable respite for family Carers at weekends.  We try to accommodate most physical disabilities and have access for a wheelchair.

Oasis Club clients are collected by minibus or brought to the club by Carers at approximately 10.00am and the day begins with refreshments and discussions with Carers if this is necessary.

We adopt a Club atmosphere by being client focused and using a 'Person Centred Caring' approach to dementia care.  We do this by:

encouraging clients to be as self-managing as possible, emphasising the tasks they can do and so raising self-esteem and confidence

valuing each individual and their unique personality and history

regularly asking clients which activity they enjoy and asking for

    suggestions for future activities

    encouraging friendships within the group

by making the client feel safe enough to talk about how their dementia affects them, if they want to

Activities include; cookery, visits to local attractions, quizzes, games, hairdressing, beauty mornings, pub lunches, drama therapy, reminiscence, singing and cream teas, to mention a few.
