Saturday opening at day club

People with dementia in Trowbridge will not face such long waits for a day club place, thanks to the National Lottery.

Polebarn House day club, run by independent charity Alzheimer’s Support, is to open on Saturdays from April after securing £250,000 over four years. As well as meeting existing running costs, the grant will allow the club to open for the first time on Saturdays.

The extra hours are a long cherished dream for manager Jenny Mayne, who has wanted to extend the club for many years. She said: “We have so many people on our waiting list that this will really help to get people into the club more quickly.

“We are going to run two half day sessions for new members, and the idea is that we will get to know people on a Saturday and then offer them a whole day place as they become available.

“We will be able to match people really well as we will have got to know their needs and preferences.”

Polebarn Club meets in a semi-detatched house in Polebarn Gardens and has just six members at a time.
