Goodbye to Barbara
press release - November 23 2011
A retired nurse who became a great friend to many people with dementia has retired from her varied role with Alzheimer’s Support.
Barbara Rodger worked for the independent Wiltshire charity for more than 10 years after a career as a community nursing sister.
She was a support worker in the Warminster and Westburyarea, visiting people in their own homes to provide companionship and a break for carers.
She was deputy manager for the Oasis day club which meets every Saturday at Grassacres, Westbury, and for the last two years brought her warm approach and wonderful people skills to the Sidmouth day club in Devizes.
In addition to her paid roles, Barbara was a regular volunteer at the monthly Alzheimer café in Westbury, which provides a friendly meeting place for families affected by dementia.
Alzheimer’s Support services manager Gill Frere-Smith said: “Barbara has been a tremendous asset to the organisation. She has always been enthusiastic and often gone out of her way to ensure that people have a good day at our clubs. She will be sorely missed and we wish her well for the future.”
