National Dementia Strategy

The National Dementia Strategy was adopted in 2009 in response to the growing numbers of people with dementia and the anticipated rise in the future.
The strategy called for:

  • better and swifter diagnosis
  • greater  public awareness about dementia
  • improved dementia services on the ground so that people have more choice about their care, better support to stay in their homes if that is what they chose to do, better understanding of their needs if they are admitted to hospital, better understanding of their needs in care homes.

Alzheimer’s Support is involved in a number of initiatives to implement the strategy at local level, and is working with Wiltshire Council, NHS Wiltshire and the acute hospitals to meet the objectives. For more information contact 01225 776481.
